From Our MillsKIDS Director, Jana Hoober

We are dedicated to raising our kids in church community to know, love, and live for God. Our volunteer team is here to support you. We are fully aware that parents are the primary spiritual leaders of their children. My goal is to foster a community of families who intentionally live out our faith in our homes, where we “impress God’s ways on our children. Talk about them when we sit at home and when we walk along the road, when we lie down and when we get up.” (Deuteronomy 6:7)

I look forward to being your friend in this important ministry. And I love spending time with your kids.

School of Discipleship: To Know, Love, and Live for God

Every Sunday at 9 am from early September through early June

To Know

MillsKids School of Discipleship classes begin when kids are two years old.  The focus of our 2s&3s and 4s&5s is to know who God is by learning about Him in the Big God Story. Each Bible passage is taught in a large group setting. Kids experience worship, interactive play and space for response to God’s Story with an effort to create an environment to know who God is.

To Know and Love
Knowing God and His story is the first step in loving Him. Kindergarten and 1st graders continue in their spiritual formation by knowing and loving God and His amazing story. Large group worship, musical scripture memory, giving projects and prayer enhance spiritual growth and draw the hearts of kids to the heart of God. The Bible lesson, taught in a small group, is referred each week to the Bible timeline emphasizing that God’s story is one story of rescue that is continuing today. Bible passages are taught in an interactive way so that learning is fun and memorable.

To Know, Love and Live
2nd-5th graders continue their School of Discipleship classes in the east building, called the Annex. At this age the large group teaching goes deeper with greater emphasis on responding to God through prayer, journaling, and listening. Bibles are opened and used each week and conversation is guided in answering The One Question, “What does God want you to know about Himself by telling this story?” Kids increase their level of scripture memory through the Bible Basics memory program. Every six weeks the 2nd-5th graders have a special Sunday class called “Remember and Celebrate.” On these Sundays parents are invited to join their kids for special worship, announcing new giving projects, Bible memory practice and a review teaching. Kids conclude “Remember and Celebrate” with fun Bible review games while the parents spend the second half of the hour in prayer for their kids.

Kids Community

Every Sunday during the 10:30 worship service

At the Mills Church we encourage families to experience church community and corporate worship together. All kids ages 4 and up come with their families to the 10:30 worship service. Nursery and 2s&3s care is provided. After the worship set, kids ages 4 years old-3rd grade are dismissed from the service to attend Kids Community. Kids Community is designed for kids to relax, build on their knowledge of God’s story, have a snack, and participate in meaningful crafts or large motor games that reinforce scripture memory or build on the scripture passage. Kids are returned to their parents in the worship service after the offering song and participate in the closing of the service
