Baptism is the practice of the church that testifies to the one universal community formed by the rule and reign of Jesus.  The church is an international community immersed in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.  It is out of this new life in Christ that we both experience and partner with God in restoring relationships between God, ourselves, others, and creation.

The word baptize comes from the Greek word baptizo, which simply means to dunk, wash, or immerse in water.  In Jewish practice, the ceremonial washing or baptism was a sign of conversion.  It symbolized the taking on of a new identity and the adoption of a new way of life.  Jesus instructed his disciples to adopt this practice as a way of demonstrating the new identity formed through his death and resurrection, as well as, the taking on of his teaching.

We baptize anyone who wishes to declare his or her allegiance to Jesus Christ as Lord of the world.  We recognize that different Christian communities practice baptism in different ways.  We believe baptism is ultimately a sign of the communal unity that Jesus created in his death and resurrection and should not be a dividing point among followers of Jesus.  Therefore we do not make a particular mode of baptism a requirement for becoming of covenant member of our local community.

Our particular practice is to baptize by fully immersing disciples of Jesus into water.  We wish to symbolize our full identification with Jesus' death, burial and resurrection.  We utilize baptism as a public confession of a person's faith and allegiance to Jesus Christ and we practice child dedication rather than infant baptism as a congregation.  If you would like more information or wish to be baptized please contact us.
